W.O.W. (a photo project by Cobbie Cebrero-Karagdag)

"Washout One-Hundred and one Wishes is a string of words
that I thought of about 6 months ago
after I discovered a new approach to my photography.
Since it was new to me I wanted to make something creative out of it.
Also, given that the year was ending and the holidays were coming in,
I wanted to find out what people were wishing
for the ‘now’, for the next year,
and/or for the long term.
And I also wanted to experience what it is like to take
a hundred and one portraits from a hundred and one people
and fuse them under one idea.
With these questions in mind,
I wanted to answer them in one undertaking.

Hence, W.O.W. was born."

2. You can make your way around the city with your eyes closed. - Without cars rushing and people fooling a blind girl like me, if thats the case. Haha. Did I just murder an idiom? :))

3. You've memorized all the jeepney routes. - Not really. I'm not much of a jeepney-rider way back in highschool; it's just now that I learned to ride 'em.

5. You've touched the waters of the Cagayan River. - If you’ve gone white water rafting, of course!

6. You've heard of the legend of the Giant Goldfish that lives in the Cagayan River (that if the city gets too noisy the Fish will wake up and cause an apocalyptic earthquake). - Ever since kindergarten.

7. You can identify the street name or address wherever you are in the city. – Not all. I know landmarks though. And I WILL be able to soon, thanks to DC1.

13. You prefer Red Horse over other beer brands. – I rarely drink beer. :P

14. You study in the city. – Yep.

15. You have stereotypes for each of the universities in the city. – I never stereotype universities except my own. Haha. I’m such a boring person and definitely not spontaneous.

16. You've memorized the Cagayan Park View Hotel jingle by heart ("people stay in Cagayan... Cagayan Park View Hotel...") – “… in the middle of the city, you sleep like a baby! I love this place! I love to stay in Cagayan Park View Hotel!” HAHA! AND I just found out (thanks to Jillybean) that the person who sang in this radio jingle is actually from DAVAO.

17. You've seen or heard the name "Kasama Tsui" somewhere. – YES! Hell, yes! Hahaha! A famous tricycle operator! I’ve seen and ridden a number of trikes with KASAMA TSUI written on it ever since high school.

18. You prefer riding Altis taxis. – What can I say?

19. You've noticed that the jeepneys call out for you to ride them, not the other way around. – Yeah I know right?! Ugh they're sooo dirty no matter what.

21. You frequent Limketkai Mall and SM. – Uh-huh.

22. You've shopped at the Night Market. – never bought anything. But I did go with my friend who happened to buy a gift for another friend though. (hello Carina! :P)

27. You've been pick-pocketed in Cogon, Carmen, or Agora. – Nope. And I hope I’ll never be pick-pocketed in those places.

29. You jay-walk without worries. – HAHAHA! This is so true!

30. You've never experienced a typhoon. – Not until recently. (are water sprouts and flash floods worse than typhoons?)

38. Dunkin Donuts in Divisoria is your preferred meeting place for outings. – Ah, yes. The ultimate meet-up place.

39. You listen to the FM radio program "Awards Night" on MOR 91.1 every Sunday night. – I don’t listen to the radio much, except for the flash flood slash calamities week. And 'twas AM by the way, not FM. Hehe.

40. You know where Catanico Falls is. – Good lord, where is this place?!?

41. You know who Stephanie Sol is. – Yes. Miss Teen Cagayan? I don't know what year though.

42. You've picnicked at High Ridge. – I’ve been there thrice at night but never picnicked. I should do that next time.

43. You can identify places while looking down at the city from High Ridge. – I was there during night time so it was a little hard to identify some landmarks.

44. You're familiar with the city's local politicians. – Only the Mayor (i.e., Emano, Jaraula). Hahaha.

45. You jog or play sports at the Pelaez Sports Center often. – I used to.

46. You've been to the Museo de Oro at Xavier University and La Castilla Museum at Liceo de Cagayan University. – Once, in Grade Four. And I don't remember the stuff inside or the history that was told there.

47. You spend your Holy Week climbing Malasag hill. – Once, I think.

48. You give Oroham and Sler's products as pasalubongs when you travel. – My mother does. For my relatives. Hehe

Occurences during the rain

The weather in Cagayan de Oro is the worst one I have ever experienced. Water sprouts are formed because of too much rain and wind, and flash floods are expected (and are happening) in the city. And we can't do anything about it but be alert and wise in whatever we do.

I wish the rain would stop. It's scaring me already. And I'm not the only one--I'm sure a number of the people in this city are. Even my dog Bailey is scared. I can tell. She was lying down on a cooler and she looked horrified. I patted her and she stared at me with those puppy eyes. She reaches for my hand, so I held her paw. I tried to let go of it coz I was about to go inside the house, but she cried and reached for my hand again. Her eyes looked so scared.

See? Even my dog is scared. And I'm sure she senses happenings like these before it happens.

It is also during this time that I learn to appreciate RMN stations of the radio. Yes, the DJs speak dialeque/Bisaya and it does sound a bit cheap, but hey, they're media do their jobs and who are actually attaining their goals on giving information to the public. Most of the Cagayan de Oro residents speak Bisaya, and communication should be delivered in a way that the public will be able to understand.

BUT. It still doesn't give me any relief. All these information, theories, paranoia, and alertness--they don't give me any assurance that all this will be over. Until I found this (go ahead, click it!)

January 17, you are our only hope. Please come sooner.
